Whether you want to compete or just have fun, Buckingham Equestrian Center's lesson program has a lot to offer. Read on for more information.

Buckingham Equestrian Center proudly welcomes Ellen Shevella of Charlottesville, Va (formerly of Wellington, Fl.) on the first Tuesday of every month for the finest of instruction. Ellen is a USEF ''R'' judge with 25 years of producing educated riders and champions. Ms. Shevella has held the USEF "R" designation for over 20 years in the Hunter, Hunter Breeding, Hunter Seat Equitation and Jumpers. She is a sought after official, most recently judging both the Florida and California winter "AA" circuits in 2008.

As a rider Ellen was frequently found in the winner's circle at many of our nation's most prestigious horse shows. These have included: Capital Challange, The National Horse Show, HITS Ocala, Washington International, Pennslyvania National, Winter Equestrian Festival/Palm Beach, and Tampa.

She has been fortunate over the years to have many wonderful horses and poinies in her life. A few of them are:

Better and Better: Winner of both the USEF Medal and MacClay Finals

Easton: Winner USEF Medal Finals

Razzle Dazzle: Champion Capital Challenge, HITS Circuit Champion

Where There's Smoke: USEF Pony Finals Champion, HITS Circuit Champion

Mistral: Winner HITS 25K Pre Green Classic, Res. Champion 10K Capital Challenge

Kasper: USEF Zone 3 Champion, Class winner Washington International

Just because you keep your horse or pony at a small farm or at home shouldn't exclude you from receiving the highest quality training and instruction available. Ellen has a strong dressage and eventing background as well. Call Mary today to set up an appointment for the next Tuesday lesson date. 434-983-7427

The Youth and Adult Beginner Program, headed by trainer Mary Svalstedt and Ellen Shevella emphasizes the basic skills that make up a successful foundation in riding.

A lead-line lesson, one-on-one instruction for ages 3 and up, offers kids a fun way to improve motor skills and coordination, develop communication skills, and foster empathy for animals by caring for the horses and ponies before and after each lesson.
As riders gain independence they can move on to a full private lesson or group lesson, and learn to ride at a walk, trot, and canter, as well as learn basic jumping skills.

The Advanced Rider Program, taught by owner and trainer Mary Svalstedt and Ellen Shevella develops the advanced techniques of flat-work and jumping. Many riders in this program compete in horse shows, and the effectiveness of Mary's and Ellen's program is demonstrated by the success these riders enjoy at competitions around the area and at the state and national levels. The students benefit from the tremendously talented and athletic horses that are a part of the lesson and show program at Buckingham Equestrian Center.
